Merkel Hails UN Migration Pact Le Pen Says Would ‘Forever Change’ France

The face of the UN Migration Pact German Chancellor Angela Merkel has hailed the agreement signed Monday as good for migrants and the world, while populist anti-mass migration French politician Marine Le Pen has warned it will “forever change” the face of France.

“Today is a very important day,” Dr Merkel said Monday after 164 out of 193 countries voted in favour of adopting the United Nations’ Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, which states that mass migration is “inevitable, desirable and necessary” and aims to institutionalise it at an international level.

The German Chancellor, who suspended asylum rules and invited unlimited numbers of migrants to Europe at the height of the migrant crisis in 2015, told UN delegates in Marrakesh, Morocco, that signing the document was a “good signal that we are dealing with the fate of the many millions of migrants worldwide,” she said, according to Die Zeit.

“It is therefore worthwhile to fight for this pact: firstly because of the many people who can get a better life from it, but also because of the clear commitment to multilateralism.

“Only through this we will be able to make our planet better,” she said.

Belgium Gov on Brink of Collapse Over UN Migration Pact

Belgium’s government is at risk crumbling over the United Nations’ controversial Migration Pact, which has been welcomed by the nation’s Prime Minister Charles Michel but challenged by the country’s largest opposition party.

Bart de Wever, leader of the New-Flemish Alliance, has blasted the UN Migration Pact as unacceptable while Belgium’s leader Mr. Michel is keen to sign it in a move that could trigger the fall of the Belgian government. Mr de Wever said: “It’s non-binding, but will that serve as an argument in court? The fact that the EU is no longer pursuing push-back policies on refugees is the result of a court decision, not a political one.” As a result of the divide, judges in Belgium have suggested the “solution” is to add a further clause that would essentially reduce the implications of the UN pact for the EU member state. This has sparked further fury by Mr de Wever’s party, with members refusing to budge on their stance on the pact regardless of the talks.

This has sparked outrage by Mr. Michel, who raged: “It’s not impossible to find a solution!”

UN Climate Summit To Emit More CO2 Than 8,200 American Homes Do In A Year

This year’s United Nations climate summit will have a carbon footprint equivalent to the yearly electricity usage of more than 8,200 American households, according to the international body’s own figures.

The U.N. estimates the summit, called COP24, will emit 55,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide — the very greenhouse gas U.N. officials are trying to keep from accumulating in the atmosphere.

Based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) figures, that’s the equivalent of more than 11,700 cars driving for one year or 728 tanker trucks worth of gasoline. That amount of CO2 emissions is also the same as 8,243 American homes for an entire year, according to EPA.

However, that’s a low-ball estimate because it only includes the emissions from the conference itself, and not emissions associated with the thousands of people who flew to the meeting in Katowice, Poland. More than a few summit-goers, including celebrities, likely flew private jets.

When those emissions are factored in, COP24’s carbon footprint is likely much higher, according to environmental economist Richard Tol.

“[It is] probably unusually high as Katowice would require multiple stops for anyone who’s not from Europe,” Tol told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The high carbon footprint only contributes to the U.N.’s hypocritical image. Indeed, a former U.N. environment director was forced to resign in November over his extensive, costly travel while warning the world of the need to cut emissions to stem global warming.

U.N. officials spent the past few months hyping COP24 as one of the last chances humanity has to avoid catastrophic global warming. A U.N. report issued in October suggested a $27,000 per ton carbon tax might be needed by the end of the century to stem warming.

Tol also estimated COP24’s cost to top $130 million, but Tol considers that to be an underestimate because whole new facilities, basically a town, had to be built to accommodate tens of thousands of people.

“There’s 30,000 people in Katowice — 1,300 person-years. I’d put that at $130 million,” Tol said via email. “That’s an underestimate, as they build a new town.”

More than 30,000 people are expected to attend COP24, which kicked off Monday, in Poland. For 60 days, U.N. officials, diplomats, environmentalists and journalists will eat up electricity and fuel traversing thousands of square meters of temporary structures set up to house the summit.

The summit’s goal is to further the implementation of the Paris climate accord, which went into effect in 2016. British natural historian and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough kicked off the summit with dire predictions of catastrophe is nothing is done to stop global warming.

However, Attenborough, like thousands of others, no doubt emitted lots of carbon dioxide getting to Katowice, which is in the heart of Poland’s coal country.

The U.N. has long been criticized for the high carbon footprints and costs of its meetings. The U.N.’s 2015 climate summit likely resulted in 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions, mostly from associated air travel.

To deal with this hypocritical image, the U.N. has taken to offsetting the emissions from its summits by sponsoring forestry projects. For COP24, the U.N. will pay the Polish State Forests agency to plant 6 million trees.

Carbon “offsets,” however, are somewhat controversial because they allow people to pay for theoretical emissions reductions by funding green energy projects or reforestation.

The U.N. is also offering free lanyards to COP24 participants who buy offsets for non-conference-related emissions, which may include air travel based on how the U.N. calculates summit emissions.

“Many will put that on their expense account, so this is cheap virtue,” Tol said.

MEP Warns UN Pact Will Flood Europe With 59 Million Migrants by 2025

British MEP Janice Atkinson warns that the UN Compact on Migration would lead to Europe being flooded with 59 million new migrants within the next 6 years.

The document is not legally binding, but governments will be under pressure to follow its dictates. Numerous countries, including the United States and Hungary, have said they will refuse to sign the pact.

“If you think you’re in control of your borders, think again,” said Atkinson, adding, “This compact backs the EU and the UN’s aim to flood our nations with 59 million migrants by 2025…. just 6 years.”

Atkinson went on to explain the source of the new pact; A 2000 declaration that concluded Europe’s ethnic population was in decline “and therefore needed replacing.”

This has been disproven by youth unemployment in some European countries being 50% or higher, as well as many new migrants being “unemployable,” with only around 13% employed on average according to Atkinson.

The MEP savaged British Prime Minister Theresa May for promising to take back control of British borders via Brexit and yet planning to sign the UN migration pact next month.

“Remember – the UN and the globalists want to flood our continent with 59 million migrants by 2025,” Atkinson emphasized, adding that the UN document states mass immigration is “inevitable, desirable and necessary.”

Warning that the plan would lead to European countries having their “culture and identity crushed,” Atkinson also pointed out that the pact could lead to hate speech laws that make it illegal to use the term “illegal migrants,” replacing it instead with “irregular migrants”.

“It will be illegal not to use their prescribed language,” warned Atkinson, adding that European citizens could “say goodbye to your democracy and your way of life,” unless they demand their leaders refuse to sign the document.

The MEP’s concern about language policing is shared by Dutch MEP Marcel de Graaff, who said that the pact would grease the skids for laws that would criminalize criticism of mass immigration as hate speech.

UN Calls For US to End Embargo on Cuba

The UN General Assembly on Thursday called for an end to the decades-old US embargo on Cuba, adopting a resolution by an overwhelming majority and rejecting U.S. moves to criticize Havana’s human rights record.

It was the 27th time that the 193-nation assembly has issued the call to lift the embargo imposed in 1962.

The resolution presented by Cuba was adopted by a vote of 189 to 2 with no abstentions. The US and its ally Israel voted against while Ukraine and Moldova did not vote.

UN Won’t Specify Type of Strikes That Killed Dozens of Civilians

Dozens of civilians were killed in strikes on Yemen’s embattled Hodeida province, the United Nations said Thursday, as Huthi rebels blamed air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition.

The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said at least 21 civilians were killed and 10 injured in strikes Wednesday that hit a vegetable packaging facility in Al-Masudi in Bait al-Faqih.

Another three people were killed and six wounded in strikes that hit three vehicles in Al-Hali district.
