More Voters Thinks Country Better off with Trump than Clinton

Democrats and Hillary Clinton made much of the former presidential candidate’s popular vote victory in the 2016 election, but it turns out a plurality of American voters would rather have President Donald Trump in office after all.

According to a Rasmussen poll released Tuesday, 42% of likely U.S. voters believe the country would be better off if Clinton were president. But 48% of voters disagree, believing the country is better off with Trump as president. Rounding out the poll, 11% of respondents were undecided.

Since Trump upset the former Secretary of State in the 2016 election, Clinton has consistently touted her popular vote victory as reflective of the true feelings of the majority of Americans.

Clinton suggested Saturday, while speaking with husband Bill as part of the “Evening with the Clintons” tour, that the 2016 election had been “stolen” from her.

“I think it’s also critical to understand that, as I’ve been telling candidates who have come to see me, you can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you,” she told a Los Angeles crowd.

The bipartisan spending binge is now worse than under Bush and Obama

We’re now $22 trillion in debt, yet despite all that red ink, the Mexican cartels have control of our border and we’re not one bit closer to spending money on our own security. We’ve gone into deep debt for everything except the core function of the federal government.

It feels like it was yesterday when I was watching the news as a kid with my parents in 1995, listening to Newt Gingrich, during the infamous shutdown fight, warn about the dire consequences of crossing the $5 trillion debt milestone. It feels like it was yesterday when I was writing press releases for candidates in “the year of the Tea Party” on how Obama and the Pelosi Congress took the debt to $14 trillion in such a short period of time. Now, over eight years into varying degrees of GOP control of Congress and the White House, we have crossed the $22 trillion mark, expanding the debt more rapidly than at any time in our history. Whereas the debt exploded by $5 trillion during Bush’s eight-year tenure, a shocking figure at the time, it has now increased $8 trillion just since Republicans controlled the House in 2011 and by $4 trillion over the past four years, since they controlled at least two of the three political organs of government.

Now, the only question Republicans have is how many pennies of border security they will fight for, while refusing to challenge any of the nonessential and even harmful programs of the federal government. The GOP platform on debt and spending is a lie from top to bottom, as Republicans plan to pass more budget bills allowing us to blow through the budget caps without any effort to systemically reform the way we budget.

Now that Republicans are planning to cave on border funding, can they at least force a confrontation with Democrats over spending levels for functions of government that are nowhere near as important as border security? Thus, departments like HUD, which were able to completely shut down for a month with nobody noticing, will continue to enjoy record spending. We will continue to provide security for Kabul and Baghdad with the beefed-up military budget since last year’s budget deal, but no funding for our border or meaningful use of the military to protect our own sovereigntyfrom the daily incursions by the most brutal cartels on earth.

Why even have a Republican Party any more?

Even more indefensible, unlike during the end of Bush’s years and the beginning of Obama’s tenure, when we first began accruing trillion-dollar annual deficits, we are not facing a deep recession. In fact, we are enjoying the most robust period of job growth since the late 1990s, and revenue is at a record high baseline.

Let it be known for all of time that dire predictions of revenue slumping as a result of the tax cuts were fake news. The entirety of the current deficit problem is due to increased spending. According to the latest monthly report released by the Treasury Department yesterday, spending was up 9.6 percent for the first three months of fiscal year 2019 relative to the first three months of FY 2018. What about revenues? They actually rose slightly by 0.2 percent, despite some declines in certain revenue categories. This is an important statistic, because it is the first clean metric we have comparing a period of time with the tax cuts in full implementation to a period before the tax cuts.

Moreover, some of the increased tax revenue from more payroll taxes likely would not have occurred without the job creation spawned by the tax cuts. If you isolate the revenue tallies for individual and corporate taxes, the government obviously did lose some revenue in certain categories, but it was made up by a $15 billion increase in payroll tax revenue (FICA, Social Security taxes), in addition to increased revenue from excise taxes.

The annual deficit after just three months stood at $319 trillion, well on pace to smash the trillion-dollar deficit mark for the first time in a booming economy.

Thus, this bipartisan era of debt is worse than anything we’ve seen this generation, and it is all happening with record revenue and a booming economy – with no world war consuming our economy and budget.

Thanks to Republican-approved budget deals, for the first three months of the fiscal year, outlays for HHS are up 12.5 percent, outlays for the Department of Education spiked 23 percent, and outlays for the Department of Commerce have doubled! Meanwhile, outlays on Homeland Security have actually been down by 30 percent because of less disaster spending under FEMA than last year. But it’s not like we went on a spending binge for Border Patrol and ICE. Outlays on military spending are up 8.45 percent, but again, what is the purpose of the military if we use it everywhere else in the world except against those who most directly harm us at our own border?

Trump: US “Closer Than Ever” to China Trade Deal

President Donald Trump praised the progress U.S. and Chinese negotiators made as they work to reach a sweeping trade agreement, saying China finally respects the U.S. again.

In Friday’s Rose Garden speech that largely revolved around his emergency declaration, Trump also told reporters trade talks with China have been going “extremely well” and that the U.S. is closer than ever before to reaching a “real” trade deal.

“In China we had a negotiation going on for about two days. It’s going extremely well. Who knows what that means because it only matters if we get it done, but we’re very much working very closely with China and President Xi, who I respect a lot,” Trump said. “And we’re a lot closer than we ever were in this country with having a real trade deal. We’re covering everything.”

His comments come after U.S. and Chinese representatives concluded two days of trade talks in Beijing. The meetings included top brass from both countries: U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

While no final deal has been reached, both sides claim progress was made and have agreed to meet again in Washington, D.C., later in February. The next round of talks come as a U.S.-imposed deadline is fast approaching. Trump pledged to enact another round of tariffs on Chinese goods if the two sides fail to reach an agreement by March 1.

The back-and-forth negotiations are a product of Trump’s desire to correct China’s “unfair” trade imbalance with the U.S. — something he has adamantly criticized since running for office. Not only have Chinese leaders agreed to buy more U.S. agricultural products, such soybeans and natural gas, but Trump also wants to see the communist country restructure its industrial policies. Numerous Western governments have complained China unfairly supports state-owned enterprises while abusing foreign companies that try to enter its market.

(Photo by kees torn / Wikimedia Commons)

Trump — who already imposed a 10 percent tariff on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods — vowed to hike the rate to 25 percent until Xi agreed to trade talks in early December 2018. That began the 90-day trade negotiation process, slated to end March 1. China’s slowing economy — which in 2018 grew at its lowest rate in nearly three decades — has pressured communist leaders to reach a deal.

“The tariffs are hurting China very badly,” Trump said. “And the relationship with China is very good. But I think they finally respect our country. They haven’t respected us for a long time — not for a long time.”

Pelosi less popular than Trump: Only 38% view new Speaker favorably

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, was elected Speaker of the House on Thursday, reclaiming the gavel by a vote of 220 to 192.

While Democrats and media figures fawn over Pelosi, many aren’t aware that she’s one of the most unpopular members of Congress.

Despite historic opposition and endless negative media coverage, President Donald Trump’s approval rating is much higher than where Pelosi is currently sitting.

According to a recent Gallup survey, only 38 percent of Americans view Pelosi favorably, with 48 percent viewing her unfavorably.

“Pelosi’s latest favorability rating of 38% has risen nine percentage points since the previous measurement last June and is currently higher than the historical average of 33%,” said Gallup. However, Pelosi “is the most polarizing leader, receiving both the highest favorable reviews from members of her own party as well as the highest unfavorable reviews from members of the opposing party,” said the polling firm.

By comparison, Trump’s current approval rating is 10 points higher.

According to Rasmussen Reports, which is one of the few polling agencies that gave Trump a strong chance of winning the 2016 presidential election, found that the president’s approval rating last month was 48 percent.

“The president earned a monthly job approval of 48% in December, unchanged from the month before. That’s down just one point from his high for the year of 49% reached in both April and October. Fifty-one percent (51%) disapproved of his job performance last month, up a point from November,” the report stated.

Trump’s approval being double digits higher than Pelosi’s shouldn’t surprise many given her San Francisco appeal and liberal policies don’t sit well with many Americans.

On Thursday, just hours before she was nominated as House Speaker, Pelosi opened the door to impeachment, claimed Trump doesn’t know Hawaii is part of the United States, and defended her expensive vacation over Christmas break while part of the federal government is shutdown.

During an interview Thursday with TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie, the California progressive had a total meltdown.

“The president took a swipe, I think, as recently as today saying that you went on vacation to Hawaii during the shutdown. Now, you had said before the shutdown that he was being quite cavalier and maybe the shutdown will give him more time to golf, but in the end it was you that took a holiday,” Guthrie said.

“I observed the Christmas holiday for a few days in Hawaii. I cut in half the time I would have had with my family,” Pelosi responded, playing up the theatrics because she cut her vacation a few days short.

“Is that a cheap shot?” Guthrie asked.

“It’s not important. It’s totally unimportant, but the fact is we all stood ready and told our members we’ll have 24 hours notice for all of us to be where we need to be,” Pelosi added.

“And the president may not know this, but Hawaii is part of the United States of America. Maybe he doesn’t realize that. I don’t know where the president observed the religious holiday of Christmas,” she said.

While Trump didn’t leave Washington, D.C, for Christmas and has been pleading with Democrats to strike a deal for wall funding and to reopen the government, Pelosi was vacationing at The Fairmont Orchid, a 5-star resort on Hawaii’s Big Island.

A standard room at the luxury resort starts at just shy of $1,000 per night and accommodation can cost up to $10,000 per night for the presidential suite.

Canadian Imam Claims Saying ‘Merry Christmas’ Worse Than Murder

A video of Imam Younus Kathrada’s sermon for the Muslim Youth of Victoria in the Canadian province of British Columbia was provided by the Middle East Media Research Institute and came ahead of Christmas celebrations around the world.

Those Muslims who congratulate Christians on the Christmas holiday are committing crimes which are even worse than murder, according to Sheikh Younus Kathrada from the Canadian province of British Columbia

During his sermon at the Muslim Youth of Victoria, which came ahead of Christmas celebrations across the globe, Kathrada expressed regret over Muslims’ perception of what he described as a “false holiday”, claiming that they “must be offended” by the beliefs of Christians.

“There are those who will say to them ‘Merry Christmas’. What are you congratulating them on? Congratulations on the birth of your Lord? Is that acceptable to a Muslim? Are you now approving of their beliefs? By saying that you are approving of it”, he noted.

Kathrada went further by arguing that if a person commits such major sins as adultery, lying or murder, “they are nothing compared to the sin of congratulating and greeting the non-Muslims on their false festivals”.

At the same time, he made it clear that he does not call for Muslims to crackdown on non-Muslims as far as his Christmas-related comments are concerned.

“I’m not saying, and I’ve never said, go out and just kill them, and do this to them […] Because Allah tells us not to allow the enmity that may exist between you and a people to cause you to be unjust towards them. Rather, be just”, Kathrada concluded.

Most Twitter users expressed surprise over Kathrada’s remarks, with some describing them as “completely ridiculous” and “awful”. One netizen did not think twice before calling Kathrada a “maniac”.

Number Of German Gun Licenses More Than Double During Migrant Crisis

The German government has been struggling to contain a rise in violence and social anxiety that rocked Europe’s wealthiest nation since Europe’s refugee crisis started just over three years ago, when Chancellor Angela Merkel first announced her “open doors” policy in response to a wave of refugees fleeing Syria, Afghanistan and North Africa. The result: German citizens are now rushing to obtain basic firearms licenses.

According to a report from Deutsche Welle, rising perceptions of “insecurity” were cited as a driving factor in the increase of issued firearms licenses. Some have suggested that the trend could trigger situations similar to the US, where gun violence has become a major social problem.

German authorities issued more than 600,000 weapons licenses, representing an increase of 130% since 2014, according to the latest figures published by Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND). For perspective, there were only 261,332 licenses in 2014.

Separately, German authorities have been struggling to deport criminal migrants. One troubling example was recently highlighted by Germany’s Bild newspaper: one illegal migrant who arrived in Germany more than 20 years ago had managed to avoid deportation despite being accused of 542 criminal acts. The reason? German authorities can’t figure out which country to deport him to. Meanwhile, during this bureaucratic fiasco, the migrant was allowed to roam free.

Despite the migrant chaos, some German officials are even more worried that more weapons in citizens’ hands could transform the country into a hellhole of death and destruction.

“We must be careful not to get American conditions in Germany,” said Jörg Radek, deputy chairman of police union GdP, referring to widespread gun violence in the US. “There is a danger that weapons will not be used properly and that their owners will endanger themselves.”

And so, 3 years after what arguably was the biggest mistake made by a German political leader in almost a century, the country is sinking ever faster into a social, economic and demographic bog. The failed immigration policies by Merkel have triggered one of the largest moves by the country’s civilian population to acquire guns. And it’s not just Germany: a quick look at the old continent’s other nations shows that a storm is coming to Europe, and 2019 is shaping up as the trigger year.

California: More than 7-in-10 Noncitizen Households Are on Welfare

More than 7-in-10 households headed by immigrants in the state of California are on taxpayer-funded welfare, a new study reveals.

The latest Census Bureau data analyzed by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) finds that about 72 percent of households headed by noncitizens and immigrants use one or more forms of taxpayer-funded welfare programs in California — the number one immigrant-receiving state in the U.S.

UN Climate Summit To Emit More CO2 Than 8,200 American Homes Do In A Year

This year’s United Nations climate summit will have a carbon footprint equivalent to the yearly electricity usage of more than 8,200 American households, according to the international body’s own figures.

The U.N. estimates the summit, called COP24, will emit 55,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide — the very greenhouse gas U.N. officials are trying to keep from accumulating in the atmosphere.

Based on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) figures, that’s the equivalent of more than 11,700 cars driving for one year or 728 tanker trucks worth of gasoline. That amount of CO2 emissions is also the same as 8,243 American homes for an entire year, according to EPA.

However, that’s a low-ball estimate because it only includes the emissions from the conference itself, and not emissions associated with the thousands of people who flew to the meeting in Katowice, Poland. More than a few summit-goers, including celebrities, likely flew private jets.

When those emissions are factored in, COP24’s carbon footprint is likely much higher, according to environmental economist Richard Tol.

“[It is] probably unusually high as Katowice would require multiple stops for anyone who’s not from Europe,” Tol told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

The high carbon footprint only contributes to the U.N.’s hypocritical image. Indeed, a former U.N. environment director was forced to resign in November over his extensive, costly travel while warning the world of the need to cut emissions to stem global warming.

U.N. officials spent the past few months hyping COP24 as one of the last chances humanity has to avoid catastrophic global warming. A U.N. report issued in October suggested a $27,000 per ton carbon tax might be needed by the end of the century to stem warming.

Tol also estimated COP24’s cost to top $130 million, but Tol considers that to be an underestimate because whole new facilities, basically a town, had to be built to accommodate tens of thousands of people.

“There’s 30,000 people in Katowice — 1,300 person-years. I’d put that at $130 million,” Tol said via email. “That’s an underestimate, as they build a new town.”

More than 30,000 people are expected to attend COP24, which kicked off Monday, in Poland. For 60 days, U.N. officials, diplomats, environmentalists and journalists will eat up electricity and fuel traversing thousands of square meters of temporary structures set up to house the summit.

The summit’s goal is to further the implementation of the Paris climate accord, which went into effect in 2016. British natural historian and broadcaster Sir David Attenborough kicked off the summit with dire predictions of catastrophe is nothing is done to stop global warming.

However, Attenborough, like thousands of others, no doubt emitted lots of carbon dioxide getting to Katowice, which is in the heart of Poland’s coal country.

The U.N. has long been criticized for the high carbon footprints and costs of its meetings. The U.N.’s 2015 climate summit likely resulted in 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions, mostly from associated air travel.

To deal with this hypocritical image, the U.N. has taken to offsetting the emissions from its summits by sponsoring forestry projects. For COP24, the U.N. will pay the Polish State Forests agency to plant 6 million trees.

Carbon “offsets,” however, are somewhat controversial because they allow people to pay for theoretical emissions reductions by funding green energy projects or reforestation.

The U.N. is also offering free lanyards to COP24 participants who buy offsets for non-conference-related emissions, which may include air travel based on how the U.N. calculates summit emissions.

“Many will put that on their expense account, so this is cheap virtue,” Tol said.

Tech’s ‘FAANG’ stocks have lost more than $1 trillion from highs

The five “FAANG” stocks collectively lost more than $1 trillion in market value from recent highs as shares dropped after Tuesday’s open.

The stocks — Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google-parent Alphabet — all began Tuesday trading lower. Apple led the group’s losses, falling as much as 4 percent. The four other stocks later turned around, each going slightly positive on the day.

Combined market capitalization losses since their 52-week highs hit $1.02 trillion on Tuesday:

  • Facebook: $253 billion
  • Amazon: $280 billion
  • Apple: $253 billion
  • Netflix: $67 billion
  • Alphabet: $164 billion

The five tech growth stocks, which were the favorite investments for the past decade, each closed in a bear market on Monday. Wall Street defines a bear market as a fall of 20 percent or more from a stock’s 52-week high.
